How I approached this project
The ask here was to redesign the mobile app to carry the new brand identity elements designed for the brand. I approached this by recreating & redesigning over 65% of the component liberary such as the Button, Input field, navigation, Iconography system, etc. I also decided to move the component liberary to Figma, reducing implementation time from 2days to just a day.
Building the foundation of the product redesign
Here, I had to ask questions on what the expectation was from major stakeholders like the product lead, marketing executives and also the CEO as well. Ensuring the redesign isn't far from what we have so as not to have a difference in the user's current experience. The expectation from the stakeholders end were as follow:
Marketing: Ensure the redesign carries the new Pesa brand identity elements, to have a strong brand impression on the product.
Product: Ensure the user's experience wasn't far from what currently existed to still have a consistent experience even if the product had a brand refresh while taking the opportunity to improve on some of the current UX issues faced by users.
Some of the UX issues complained by some users:
What the Pesa mobile app previously looked like
Redesigning the component liberary
As mentioned earlier, one of the things I did to approached this was to design a new component liberary to create a system refresh, to align with the new brand identity and also the product goal. I redesigned over 60% of the existing components including components such as buttons, input field, navigation system, card selectors, etc.

Redesigning the Pesa mobile app
One of the design principles I set for this is Ensuring inclusivity, understanding that this is a product used across diferent user types, culture, and age, etc. It was important to expand the reach of users by satisfying their various needs.
See what the Pesa mobile app redesign look like below:
Since the redesign of the app, Pesa has been able to go into new markets. Launching in new countries like China. The Pesa mobile app is also widely used in Canada, India, Nigeria, Ghana, United Kingdom, Kenya. with Access to sending money to over 35 countries in the world.
Learning & Challenges
One thing I always understand is Design is a process that doesn't end. Redesigning the Pesa mobile app made me understand the concept of inclusivity more, realizing how important it is for my design to be used across different age or culture group.
A challenge for me was the time, after rebrand - Pesa wanted to push this out as fast as possible but didnt want to put out a new rebrand with the app still using the old brand identity. So, the time was definetly a challenge for me. But with all of this, we were able to finish the redesign in time to be pushed out to the stores for download.
